VAI endorses Action Plan on Ending the Spread of Online Disinformation

VAI joined over 100 organizations and individuals in endorsing an action plan launched by Nobel Laureates to address the toxic impact of Big Tech’s business model and end the deliberate amplification of disinformation and hate speech.

The action plan calls on governments, the European Union and the United Nations to take steps to end the toxic information ecosystem and put human rights, dignity and security first. Governments are called upon to require tech companies to carry out independent human rights impact assessments and to force companies to make changes to their business model to prevent the spreading of disinformation and hate.

VAI assisted Rohingya groups to file a complaint before the OECD NCP in Ireland on the 9th of December 2021, which was transferred to the US on the 1st of June 2022. The military and others in Myanmar used Facebook to incite violence, resulting in numerous human rights violations against the Rohingya and in them fleeing their homeland.
